Peel Pool Association Open Singles Tournament was held at Dudley Park Bowling & Recreation Club (Inc) on Tuesday 11 August 2026.
A big field of 37 competitors rocked up at 6pm to kick-off the best of three proceedings. A block warning was issued with all matches to be independently timed otherwise all competitors to self-adjudicate. Losers would time keep the next match, this ensured we got through the night as quickly as possible.
The best of three quarters comprised matches between Jeremy Bower vs Paul Aylward, Julien Reibel vs Jason MacGuire, John Nixon vs Ben Dougherty. Special mention must be made of the match between Keith Carter and Hugh Highman. Hugh did well on the night taking the game right up to Keith, who for a moment in trouble but his experience showed through to a match win.
The semis saw Keith Carter vs Jeremy Bower and on the other table Jason McGuire vs Ben Dougherty. Both matches were best of five so some battles were to be had, unfortunately the semis were over just as quickly as they had begun, with Jason the victor in his match against Ben 3 – 0 and Jeremy taking out Keith 3 – 1.
THE FINAL

The best of 5 final saw Jason jump to a 2 – 0 lead quickly, however Jeremy came back in the third to bring the score back to 2 – 1. The fourth frame saw both players in all-out attack mode but Jason’s second visit saw him cleanup and land a great position on the black. Final score Jason 3frames to Jeremy’s 1 frame.
Not only do we congratulate Jay on his PPA 2026 Open Singles Win but also congratulate him becoming a proud Pop with the birth of a granddaughter on the day.
